G. L. Gianfranchi Italian Dining Chairs

June 20, 2009

What if…

…I was walking down the street and I found an envelope containing $4,200. I wonder what I would do knowing that there are a set six of killer GL Gianfranchi molded plastic dining chair, just waiting for me to take them home at Mod Living Supplies. Usually it’s a no brainer and you turn in the money to the closest precinct, but what a moral dilemma I would be in.

This week, I am keeping my eyes off the pavement and really hoping the envelope of money doesn’t fall in my lap while sipping my morning coffee at a sidewalk cafe. I don’t know anything about this designer, but I plan to do some research. Hey Sir Larry Weinberg, help me out if you can.

Here is what I do know from Mod Living Supplies:

- mid-century Antiques Collection
- set of six G. L. Gianfranchi molded plastic dining chairs on tubular metal base with cast aluminum armrests.
- height: 31 inches
- width: 21 inches
- depth: 22 inches
- construction: plastic and aluminum
- creator: G. L.Gianfranchi, Italy
- year: 1970

Great blog, Great post! These chairs are gorgeous. I love Modern Living Supplies (not "Mod") and have worked with them since Mark's days at his first shop in Brooklyn. You actually may not need to spend the whole envelope as Mark is generally pretty fair in negotiating. You've motivated me to do some research on Gianfranchi.

We will have to ask Larry Weinberg if he knows anything about these chairs and whether they were made in other colors. Larry?

I almost wish these were in a bright punchy color, like hot pink or orange! Then I'd be in love!
