Biblioteca Shelf from Umbra
I remember when I was starting out in design in the early 1990’s that Umbra seemed to be a name that caught my eye. Their products on the shelves of ordinary home stores seemed to be my only hope in finding a modern accessory, whether it was a photo frame or clever little knick-knack. Umbra seems to have grown effortlessly and has been carrying furniture pieces like little side tables, magazine storage pieces, umbrella stands, and a chair or two.
Last year at ICFF, I was really impressed with their clever bookcase. I would have named this shelf "creative college student type finds two coffee tables on side of street, slices them in half, and stacks the four pieces on top of each other to create a cheeky bookshelf." Umbra calls it the Biblioteca shelf and it is designed by the talented Matt Carr.
