Piet Boon

May 2, 2010

It’s not him, it’s me. I have known of Piet Boon for a while but was never captivated by his work until recently. I am not sure why. I just revisited it with fresh eyes and now have a wild admiration for his work all of a sudden.  As I said, it’s not him, it’s me.

This all happened when Dominic of Lepere sent me a link to their sexy, updated website, and I noticed some of Piet Boon’s items featured and remembered that they carry the line along with countless other fantastic lines. I am very interested in simple, almost shaker-like design at the moment (not in wood, but in updated painted finishes). I am interested in basic simple chairs with interesting proportions, perhaps with upholstery to make them softer and more comfortable. This is why suddenly I am paying attention to Piet Boon because this is exactly what he does.

I admire the simplicity of his design and like that his proportions are sometimes oddly squat. His pieces are robust and strong but have an awkwardness to them that I can’t quite pinpoint. It’s this slight awkwardness that draws me to his designs. These are some of my favorites.

I like the parson table with the slightly flair legs.
