Moving Day

March 15, 2010

A couple of months ago, a young woman, who was debating going into interior design, asked me what my favorite part of my job was. As exciting as all the planning, designing and shopping is, I don’t think there is anything more gratifying than finally moving a client into their home. We have been working on a townhouse in TriBeCa for some time now and the anticipation of finally scheduling the furniture deliveries is driving me crazy with excitement. After looking at samples, drawings, floor plans and images for the past three years, seeing everything in real life, and seeing it all come together is super exciting. This week we have three days of post-construction clean up scheduled and then we finally start accepting furniture deliveries. It’s all about getting down and dirty, moving, assembling, tweaking, and unpacking; it’s all part of the job. We also have some installations we designed that we will be installing. There will be a lot of hired hands doing the heavy lifting, and, for this move, we’ve even pulled a professional organizer in to help the clients be super organized from the get go. Don’t call me at the office next week; I’m rolling up my sleeves and getting down to work!
