The Art of Buying Art

June 13, 2008

As a designer, there is nothing more heartbreaking than completing a space and then 1. having clients that put up hideous art, or 2. the clients don’t have art to hang and don’t have energy or money to buy art.

I am incredibly lucky to have the world’s best client, Paige West (and I really mean it about being the best client in the whole wide world!!!).  She has been collecting art for years and recently wrote a book about it.  It sort of demystifies buying art.  I love love love the artists in this book.  So now when I have a client who has empty walls or hideous art, I simply buy this book for them and keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the very flattering (blushing) mention of the book! From a client's perspective...there is nothing more frustrating than working with a designer that 1. hates your art and won't consider it when designing space and 2. makes you buy "fake" art to hang on your walls. YOU are NOT that designer, thank goodness! But, maybe a few designers could use this book, too!
