Suzan Etkin Enterprises

There are lots of things I love about what I do, but one of my favorites has to be working on custom installations with creative, talented artists. This week, my client Paige and I went to visit Sue Etkin and Brenden Fitzgerald of Suzan Etkin Enterprises at their studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We are lucky enough to be working together on a large light fixture that is going to hang over the living room coffee table. Sue and Brenden are not only a pleasure to work with but are seriously talented when in comes to custom glass work. One of their first impressive installations was the silver branches on the ceiling at the Mandarin Oriental restaurant Asiate. It is an incredibly beautiful intricate piece of work.

After a mad dash out of the car and into the old industrial building on a particularly rainy morning, and after stepping over buckets collecting water dripping from the ceilings, we stepped into their studio and were delighted to be able to take a first look at the elements of our fixture. It’s going to be a big piece–about six feet long by about four feet in diameter–and I don’t want to give too much away, but I can’t help but share the beautiful glass pieces that have been blown so far.
Some of the elements of this piece are 10 inches clear glass balls and these stunning spindles that are filed with silver. This piece is going to be beautiful! I cant wait to see it all finished and installed.
