Tartan Again

December 14, 2009

I am intrigued by tartan. It’s bold and colorful and never shy. Scottish tartans have been around forever and have, through the ages, been adopted and adapted by many. It’s been both super conservative and provocatively punk. It’s no surprise that its been manipulated so much since the graphic and color possibilities are endless.

I came across Dedon’s classic yet contemporary outdoor seating in their D.D.C. Edinburgh line. They seemed to have kept the classic colors, but really pumped up the scale. This is outdoor furniture is designed for Dedon by the incredibly talented Jean-Marie Massaud and there are four lines each of them borrowing from a different classic fashion pattern.

Fascinating use for tartan - as the "Guardians" of this uniquely Scottish icon, we applaud all such modern interpretations. The more the merrier! Scottish Tartan Authority
