Trending Toward Green
October 23, 2009
Trend USA is a luxury brand of mosaic tile that has made a tremendous commitment to sustainability. According to CEO Andrea Di Giuseppe, "We have been rigorous in our efforts to innovate glass production and use post consumer recycled glass whenever possible. "
All of this is easily verifiable on Trend’s excellent sustainability website. It is chock full of information about the company - for example, an ongoing external assessment of life cycle of its products - but also green definitions and certifications. In August Trend Q, manufactured in the US, was awarded GREENGUARD Children and Schools Certification, assuring that Trend Q contains no dangerous off-gassing. Efforts to achieve other third party certification continue for all Trend materials.
Trend's commitment to reducing their carbon footprint has resulted in reducing waste by 22%, reducing water consumption by 20%, initiating energy efficiency programs at all manufacturing plants, using only 100% recyclable or compostable packaging materials, and integrating digital technology for marketing tools.
The primary story, however, is the post consumer recycled content of Trend’s products, especially the FEEL and Trend Q collections, with percentages of up to 78 percent dependent on the specific color. All of the recycled content for Trend Collections is posted on the Trend in Green web site. Lots of good information and cool graphics too. There’s even a little green cookbook.
