A new home means a new community and new social interactions. I have moved exactly once in my life, when I moved from my childhood home to New York City. That was in 1974. It's been a very long time since I've been the new kid.

I grew up in the upper middle class Jewish ghetto of Beverly Hills. Back then it was a small community and, except for the celluloid citizens, very similar to Jewish suburbs like Great Neck or Bloomfield Hills. Other differences may have been that those suburbs didn’t have tour buses circling the neighborhood, and Richard Dreyfus wasn’t in their high school’s drama club. Needless to say, I still bear some 90210 emotional scars.

Drama Club. Note Richard Dreyfus and Albert Brooks (ne Albert Einstein) on the right.

I was never voted most popular at Beverly Hills High, nor, for that matter in New York (though I was mentioned on the Desire to Inspire blog. Check it out). Hudson may finally be my chance.

Not most popular

How am I going to become the most popular? Here is what won’t work:

  • Joining the local golf club (Don’t play)
  • Joining a local house of worship (Don’t pray)
  • Joining the local Rotary Club (Don’t look great in hats)
  • Running for an elected position (Most Popular?)
  • Hosting a Tupperware party
  • Establishing a lemonade stand
  • Sponsoring a float in the Memorial Day Parade

I’ll definitely invite plenty of guests for the weekend. The Hamptons have the lure of the sand and sea. I have a spectacular view, but try coaxing someone with an invitation to “look out the window” this weekend and “cook for yourself”. I plan to learn to make at least one dish, maybe chicken, and I will always serve my favorite dessert—grocery store birthday cake. I’m sure my dinner parties will be lively and well-attended. Chicken and birthday cake—Haute Cuisine à la Paul. C’est magnifique! Driving directions are simple. Take a right at the Hudson Correctional Facility. I’m the first left after Derek Jeter Lane.
