On Tuesday, June 11 from 4-5 p.m., NeoCon will present "Point, Counterpoint…and Consensus: A Case Study on the New NPR Headquarters." Yolanda Cole, AIA, IIDA, LEED AP, senior principal and owner of Hickok Cole Architects and Maury Schlesinger, AIA, director of real estate and administrative services for NPR, will discuss the complex build-to-suit project.

Based on its performance in a design competition, NPR chose Hickok Cole Architects to design its new 330,000-square-foot global headquarters in Washington, D.C. One of the major requirements of the project was to incorporate an existing four-story structure from 1927 within the new seven-story building. The headquarters includes a state-of-the-art, 90,000-square-foot newsroom, a multipurpose studio space for events and multimedia, a conference center, a “This is NPR” exhibit, and additional meeting spaces.

At NeoCon, Cole and Schlesinger will discuss the design process, focusing on what it took to navigate through the individual objectives of several key players in order to arrive at a successful result for all involved.

NeoCon attendees can also except to gain key knowledge from the collaboration including persuasive presentation techniques to ensure the satisfaction and buy-in of different parties; how using design themes can inform choices and organize concepts during a multifaceted program to create a successful workplace with a strong brand; how not get lost in a large, complex project; and how to obtain the tools and tips necessary to complete the project successfully.

Look out for a feature on NPR's interiors in Interior Design's May issue here.
