    Designers Doing Good: SUITE New York’s 2012 The Pink Jalk Project

    In support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, SUITE New York with Swarovski and Lange Production is celebrating its third annual The Pink Project with an online auction of twenty custom GJ Chairs, originally designed by Grete Jalk in 1963. Proceeds from this year’s The Pink Jalk Project auction, which runs through October 31, will go to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). 

    An impressive roster of 20 top international interior designers, architects and taste makers were tapped to customize a GJ Chair in the spirit of BCRF’s goal to prevent and cure breast cancer. The chairs, available for auction at Charity Buzz, will be on display through the end of the month at the SUITE New York showroom.

    “Breast Cancer affects everyone in some way and we wanted to do something as a company to acknowledge not only this disease but also all of the work [founder and chairman] Evelyn Lauder and The Breast Cancer Research Foundation have done to increase the public’s knowledge over the past twenty years,” says Kris Fuchs, co-principal, SUITE New York. “The impact Evelyn Lauder has made and will continue to make on breast cancer research and prevention is astounding.”

    According to Fuchs, the iconic GJ Chair was chosen for its “utterly feminine and sculptural quality” - and it also happens to be designed by a woman.

    Contributing designers include Aerin Lauder, Colin Cowie, Brad Ford, Darryl Carter and Deborah Berke & Partners Architects, which filmed a unique time-lapse video about the making of its custom GJ Chair that can be viewed here.
