20 Must-Sees at NYCxDesign

The second annual NYCxDESIGN festival (May 9 – 20) includes more than 300 events at venues throughout the city—here's a short list of key happenings you won't want to miss:


Industry City Brooklyn
When: May 10-20
Where: 2nd Avenue between 36th and 37th Street, Brooklyn
Why: A historic, 30-acre manufacturing complex on the waterfront will house an installation by Chilean-born designer Sebastian Errazuriz and work by Francois Chambard of UM Project alongside a host of other Brooklyn makers.


INTRO/NY
When: May 15-19
Where: Openhouse Mulberry, 201 Mulberry Street
Why: Great lineup of international brands. Resident and Very Good & Proper will make their U.S. debut, and visitors can also shop the latest design accessories from by Earnest Studio, Leibal, neo-utility and Tokyo Bike.


Duravit Kick-off Party
When: May 16, 6-8pm
Where: Duravit, 105 Madison Avenue
Why: Guests are invited to have a drink with the Duravit USA team, including President Tim Schroeder.


Sight Unseen OFFSITE
When: May 16-20
Where: 200 Lafayette
Why: A brand-new fair from Sight Unseen magazine, a more ambitious take on the NoHo Design Distrct, which ran from 2010 to 2013.


WantedDesign
When: May 16-19
Where: Terminal Stores building, 11th Avenue
Why: This year features an expanded offering from international exhibitors including Turkey, Lebanon, Iran and Quebec and an exhibition focused on original design.


“Alexander Girard: An Uncommon Vision”
When: May 17-28, 10am-4pm daily
Where: 446 West 14th Street
Why: On the occasion of the first archival reintroductions of furniture and screen-printed fabric panels by Alexander Girard, Herman Miller and Maharam celebrate his life and work with a temporary installation in New York City’s Meatpacking district.


Avenue Road Open House
When: May 17, 11am-6pm
Where: Avenue Road, 145 West. 28th Street, 5th Floor
Why: An introduction to Avenue Road's new collection from Yabu Pushelberg, Christophe Delcourt, Marlieke Van Rossum, Sebastian Herkner and Konstantin Grcic.


Foscarini at Spazio SoHo
When: May 17, 6-9pm
Where: Spazio Soho, 17 Greene Street
Why: Foscarini and Diesel Living will celebrate the launch of its new and innovative lighting collection.


International Contemporary Furniture Fair
When: May 17-20
Where: Jacob K. Javitz Center
Why: More than 500 exhibitors from around the world are attending North America's biggest platform for design. Amid the chaos, look for "HYLAND"S 8x8," a selection of fabrics curated by interior designers and organized by Christopher Hyland, and an exhibition by Jasper Morrison.


Herman Miller Collection Pop-Up Shop
When: May 18, 10am-4pm
Where: The Standard hotel, High Line
Why: The shop will include new designs from BassamFellows, Todd Bracher and Studio 7.5 as well as the recently relaunched Greenguard Gold-Certified Eames Molded Fiberglass Shell Chairs.


Atelier Courbet Presents "More Than Textile"
When: May 18, 4-6pm
Where: Atelier Courbet, 175 Mott Street
Why: Interior Design deputy editor Annie Block moderates a conversation between Masataka Hosoo, 12th Generation Master of Japanese textile workshop House of Hosoo, and collaborating artist-designer Anna Karlin.

Fritz Hansen Hosts Jaime Hayon
When: May 18, 7-9pm
Where: Fritz Hansen, 22 Wooster Street
Why: Fritz Hansen and designer Jaime Hayon invite guests to the North American launch of the Analog Table and the Re-launch of the Drop Chair by Arne Jacobsen.


"American Made" Suite NY Breakfast
When: May 19, 9-10:30am
Where: Suite NY showroom
Why: A breakfast and Q&A panel featuring Kelly Behun, Craig Bassman, Scott Fellows, Mark Albrecht, and Judy Smilow, all discussing the topic of “American Made.

Luca Nichetto for de la Espada Preview
When: May 16, 2-6pm; May 17, 11am-7pm
Where: Ludlow Studios, 40 Ludlow Street
Why: Industrial designer Luca Nichetto will be premiering his furniture collaboration with de la Espada at Ludlow Studios. Also on view will be Luca’s collaboration with fashion designer Yulia Yadrishnykova.


Artemide Celebrates 10 Years With Karim Rashid

Why: Artemide will host as VIP book singing with Karim Rashid to celebrate their 10 years of collaboration.

Alessi Cocktail Event

Why: Designer Giulio Iacchetti hosts guests for the new spring/summer introductions, and a window display highlights the Alessi Research Lab exhibition at WantedDesign.


Bisazza Mosaic 2014 Collection

Why: Bisazza will celebrate its new collections by Paola Navone, Marcel Wanders and Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel with a cocktail reception.


Bulthaup 2014 Collection
