At first blush, Yvette Balderson's hexagons could be colorful ceramic tiles. Closer inspec­tion reveals that the mosaic is actually hand-tufted in New Zealand wool. The trompe l'oeil derives from varying the pile height by 1/10 ?inch between the "tiles" and the "grout."
