17 Highlights From IMM Cologne 2018

Did IMM Cologne get in touch with its softer side this year? Sure seemed so. From the feminine accents in the 2018 Das Haus, Lucie Koldova’s light-filled experimental dream home, to the rich browns, burgundies and tan hues, to all the cushy upholstered furnishings, could it be that the annual international interiors show is moving away from tried-and-true minimalism and moving towards something that seems hardly revolutionary in the home... comfort? From classic chairs that now glow in the dark to a multitasking mirror that is a tribute to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, here are 17 of our favorite highlights from IMM 2018.

Wrought iron provides the hardy yet slender frames in the Officina collection by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Magis. The line of tables, seating, and accessories now includes upholstered furniture in fabric or leather. Photography courtesy of Magis.
A multi-tasking fireplace responding to the needs of teens took home first place in the IMM Pure Talents section this year. A steampunk-worthy paring of concrete and metal, Nocturnal Beasts by Israeli designer Yohay Alush of Bundook Design can provide a heated bench and hand-warming fire (when fed with kindling), light (when pedaled), and a speaker system (with a mobile phone plug-in). Softly rounded edges draw a barrel shape in the solid wood top of this new shape for the Pero table by Gil Coste for More. Photography by Peter Fehrentz/courtesy of More.
