Mosa knows a thing or two about tile in the home. The Dutch manufacturer, who has been in the porcelain business for 130 years, offers a product that is well suited for residential applications. Interior designers around the world, including NYC-based Ellen Hanson, use Mosa tile to clad surfaces in their dwellings. The smooth appearance and precise edges allow for a seamless arrangement on floors and walls, while the vast array of color and texture choices present numerous aesthetic possibilities.
Mosa Global Collection tiles were specified in a Central Park West home that Hanson and Paul Gates of Gates Merkulova Architects recently gut renovated. Mosa was used in three of the four bathrooms, with a large-format tile for the master bath’s walls and a high-gloss gray tile for the guest bathrooms. The vision was to create a sense of rhythm by using a subtle change of color with a standardized geometric pattern, yielding an overall harmony within the apartment.
Hanson has been working with the company for nearly a decade. “We have been using these tiles in all sorts of applications: from basement-level entertainment centers, to elegant living rooms and bathrooms, and even our own office space," Hanson says. "We love the simple, classic, and tasteful appearance of the tiles, as well as the extensive selection of size formats. The sophisticated and subtle colors allow us to create spaces that enhance our overall interior schemes.”
She also referenced the company’s accessible price point and customer service as pillars of their working relationship. “These products are reasonably priced, which makes it an easy sell to the client,” Hanson says. “Our sales rep is also very knowledgeable, and is an excellent partner in solving our design dilemmas.”
Hanson will be including Mosa's Terra Maestricht collection in Pansy Bayou, her Sarasota, Florida, design shop. It will be the firm's first retail installation with this material.
As previously reported by Interior Design, Mosa's tiles also alleviate sustainability concerns. Mosa manufactures the world’s first and only tile that's Cradle to Cradle Certified. This means that the product may qualify projects for LEED points, making them ideal for clients who seek the most rigorous environmental standards.
