Jean and Oliver Pelle collaborated with hardware designer and proprietor Rhett Butler at Salone del Mobile two years ago. Fast forward to today, and the husband-wife duo’s lighting fixtures are taking center stage at E.R. Butler, his SoHo boutique. Up until September 30, the storefront’s four enormous glass vitrines showcase different vignettes, each inspired by cinematography.
“We wanted to create scenes that evoke new meaning for each lighting piece,” says Jean Pelle, who hopes the windows will entertain passersby. “We find film direction to be a constant source of inspiration—they can achieve so much in the realm of creating mood, fantasy, and feelings.”
A recent vacation to the Dominican Republic encouraged the couple to paint translucent palm leaves on the Bubble Chandelier, whose tropical vignette evokes the Victorian-era film Angels & Insects. Another window channels Wall Street, where the Dark Moon Sconce and Silver Veil Lamp contribute to a replica of the Lower Manhattan skyline.
