Doshi Levien Takes on the Peacock Chair With Cala for Kettal

Cala chair by Doshi Levien for Kettal.

Back in the 1970’s, didn’t everyone have a rattan “peacock” chair? Which explains why Doshi Levien’s high fan-backed Cala for Kettal might look familiar. In this iteration, the frame is aluminum that’s powder-coated in one of 30 colors, woven with polyester rope in five colors, and set on either teak legs or an aluminum spoke base. With the chair cushion in mind, Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien also designed Terrain, a 34-colorway collection of solution-dyed acrylic upholstery.
