10 Outstanding Pavilions at the London Design Biennale

Fans of the Venice Biennale, rejoice: copycat London has decided to throw a similar party. The first annual London Design Biennale (LDB), through September 27, is already the must-see event of the well-heeled crowd attending the London Design Festival, also taking place this month.

LDB drew together 35 countries to present new installations and commissioned works under the theme of ‘Utopia by Design’ in rooms of the Neoclassical estate, Somerset House. The pavilions both entice and involve its design-curious crowd. At the Turkey pavilion, “The Wish Machine” asked visitors to drop a sealed wish in an air duct, which then whisked it away to a place where, perhaps, it comes true. At the highly-academic Poland pavilion, a game sent visitors to either Utopia or Dystopia—depending on the responses to a series of questions. At the South Africa pavilion, suspended animal heads gently swing. Find 10 of our favorite installations here.
