In Real Estate Developer iStar and Design Lead Anda Andrei’s race to transform a New Jersey shore town into a bustling destination, they planned an ambitious 10-year, multi-billion dollar waterfront revitalization project to add an heir of luxury to the area. Just 90 minutes from New York City, Asbury Park serves as the site for the new restaurants, public spaces, hotels—and now—modern residences.

Simply named Monroe, new luxury condominiums are being designed by master architect and New Jersey native Chad Oppenheim. “Chad–who was raised in the area and understands the town’s unique potential–is renowned for creating stunning architecture that focuses on blending indoor and outdoor living, which made him the perfect person to design Monroe,” says Anda Andrei, Creative Director and Design Lead for the Asbury Park Revitalization project.

The 34-unit building sits a few blocks from the beach, offering easy access to the neighborhood’s newly revived music and restaurant-driven culture. Oppenheim used the locale as inspiration for the project; he sourced materials from Asbury Park, including wooden boardwalk planks from old buildings and incorporated them into the new residence. With a heavy focus on indoor/outdoor living, Oppenheim outfitted Monroe with a private terrace with fresh furnishings and appliances, and an inviting color palette throughout that gives the building an urban beach oasis quality.

Open living spaces create an inviting ambience in each unit.

“I grew up in Holmdel, 20 minutes away from Asbury Park, and even as a kid, I would look at the incredible architecture there in awe,” said Oppenheim, Principal and Lead Designer of Oppenheim Architecture. “It was gratifying to be able to create something meaningful so close to where I grew up.”

Once completed in 2017, Monroe’s one, two, and three-bedroom layouts—with slick Corian countertops, Hansgrohe kitchen and bathroom fixtures, contemporary Molteni Italian cabinets, and a plethora of high-end design elements— will allow residents to enjoy a reenergized American town in its prime.
