Fresh on the heels of their induction into the Interior Design Hall of Fame last year, Pugh + Scarpa has received the 2010 Firm Award from the American Institute of Architects California Council.

The bicoastal architecture, engineering, interior design, and planning firm was given the award, the AIACC's highest honor, at a ceremony at the Monterey Design Conference at the Asilomar Lodge in Pacific Grove, California on October 9.

The annual award is given "to a firm that consistently produces distinguished architecture for a period of at least 10 years; contributes to the advancement of the profession; promotes continuing collaboration among individuals; produces work that transcends a specific area of expertise; and develops a culture that educates and mentors the next generation," according to the AIACC.

Pugh + Scarpa

Founded in 1991 and led by its three prinicpals, Angela Brooks, Gwynne Pugh, and Lawrence Scarpa, Pugh + Scarpa was received almost 50 major design awards, including 13 national AIA awards, for projects like Bergamot Station and Colorado Court, the first low-income residential complex to earn LEED Gold from the USGBC. It is also one of 12 firms selected by Brad Pitt's Make It Right foundation to design affordable housing in New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina victims.
