Design Miami/Basel, once a satellite show staged during the biannual Art Basel fair, has now become an official component of the jet-set extravaganza, and will move to a larger venue in the Basel exhibition complex in Switzerland.
Following an investment from Art Basel sponsor MCH Group, Design Miami/Basel will be relocated to Hall 5, adjacent to Halls 1 and 2, when Art Basel kicks off June 9. The new venue will increase the limited-edition design fair's floor space by 15 percent over its previous location in the city's Markthalle, where it has exhibited for the past two years.
"MCH Group is very happy with the success of the investment in Design Miami/Basel and recognizes it as terrific complement to Art Basel,” says CEO René Kamm. “To bring Design Miami/Basel into walking distance to our Exhibition Square will offer collectors, exhibitors, and our guests and even more dynamic and rich experience."
Design Miami/Basel director Ambra Medda adds, "I am absolutely delighted about this new location and the potential it offers. It takes the fair to the next level and opens up endless possibilities for Design Miami/Basel and the world of design."
