Seasonal decorations abound in Manhattan, but those with an architectural or interior twist are a special holiday treat for the New York design community. The Upper East Side’s flagship Calvin Klein Collection store on Madison Avenue and 60th St recently unveiled their annual holiday window display with an ultra-modern dollhouse as the central focus. “Madison Avenue (Doll)House” is a collaborative effort conceived by Dale Rozmiarek, senior vice president of creative services for Calvin Klein, Inc., designed by Joshua Prince-Ramus of REX Architecture PC, structurally engineered by Magnusson Klemencic Associates and fabricated by Situ Studio.

Floating high above a New York City street setting, the design offers voyeurs a futuristic concept home that speaks to the needs of modern, urban living while addressing the use and importance of space. The house features four stories complete with a greenroof and unified by the central theme of the Calvin Klein aesthetic. The dwelling’s interior space is furnished with miniature replicas of pieces from the company’s apparel, accessory, and home lines, including the new furniture line debuting in early 2009.

“By treating a New York street like landscape—and Calvin Klein's storefront like a New York street—we created a detached single-family dollhouse in Manhattan for the Calvin Klein woman,” said architect Prince-Ramus. “Undeniably frivolous, the ‘Madison Avenue (Doll)House’ still suggests a kernel of an idea for accommodating growth in existing population centers.”
