For those young at heart (and strong of thigh) who take on the city’s traffic jams on two wheels, a new place to stow their steed awaits. In conjunction with the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, Google, and Transportation Alternatives, the New York City Department of Transportation’s CityRacks Design Competition drew more than 200 entrants from 26 nations, in the hopes of assisting the city’s goal to double bike commuting by 2015. The first-place winners, Ian Mahaffy and Maarten De Greeve (Bettlelab) of Copenhagen, will receive a $10,000 prize. Their design will become the new standard bicycle rack for New York City streets. Taking home second and third place were Andrew Lang and Harry Dobbs of London and Ignacio Ciocchini of New York, respectively.
