Arik Levy and Interior Design Hall of Famer David Rockwell are among the A-list designers on the block in a live auction of Corian installations and designs commissioned by DuPont, the solid surfacing brand’s manufacturer.
The bidding takes place on December 18 at Brussels-based auction house Pierre Bergé & Associés and is open to the public. Bids may be placed in person, or by mail, fax, phone or online.
Created for Corian-sponsored events and exhibitions around the world, the lots include the 40 objects featured in “Corian 40 Years - 40 Designers,” an international traveling exhibition highlighting inventions by the likes of Harry Allen, Jeffrey Bernett and India Mahdavi.
Also included are 14 architectural forms by Sottsass Associati that previously appeared at the 2000 “Exercises in Another Material” exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Zaha Hadid is represented by a desk and bench that was featured in the 2006 “Z. Island by DuPont Corian” exhibit in Milan.
Installations include Ron Arad’s Upperworld Hotel, Battersea Power Station, from the 2004 edition of Biennale di Architettura di Venezia, and The Vitamin Bar by James Irvine, created for the 2003 “De-Lighted by Corian” exhibition in Milan.
