Is Philadelphia the new design hot spot? Design enthusiasts will gather in the City of Brotherly Love October 16-22 for the fourth annual DesignPhiladelphia. This year, the event focuses on local and international sustainable design, with the theme Down to Earth: Evolving Design in the 21st Century.

The week-long event will highlight architecture, interior design, fashion, product design, textile, and graphic design. Over 80 programs will be held at boutiques, galleries, design studios, cultural institutions, universities, warehouses, and streets throughout the city. Exhibitions, workshops, tours, lectures, and product roll-outs will place both emerging and established designers and architects in the spotlight.

A few highlights: On October 16, design retailer Design Within Reach will feature product designer Josh Owen, who will launch his new SOS stool at an evening event including cocktails. On October 17, attendees can sign up for a champagne breakfast and insider's tour of USArtists: American Fine Art Show, and the Philadelphia University's Master of Science in Sustainable Design will hold an Open House event.

Lectures include the Challenge of Interior Design: Professional Value and Opportunities, led by interior design consultant and author Mary Knackstedt, and Infill Philadelphia: How can innovative design improve food access in urban neighborhoods? held at the Center For Architecture.
