A Walker In The City

Monica Castiglioni follows in some very illustrious New Yorkers' footsteps

At some point in their frenzied days, inhabitants of the five boroughs look up—whether it be at the colored lights of the Empire State Building or the scaffolding of a new skyscraper. Monica Castiglioni, Milanese jewelry designer and photographer straordinaria, has spent time looking down, too. Focusing her Canon G9 digital on the puddles that collect on the cobblestones of her TriBeCa neighborhood, she discovered a shimmering vision of her adopted city through reflections. "This is my way of suffering through rampant construction," she explains. Her second book, New York City a Glimpse in the Puddle, presents an original photographic perspective on the same urban muse that once fascinated Alfred Kazin and E.B. White. Here, she gives us some of her impressions.
