Should interior designers be required to be accredited? This question continues to be debated by the design community. Most recently, the American Society of Interior Designers has thrown its support behind the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) in the form of financial backing.
The backing will be used to fund CIDA's examination of the interior design accreditation process, as well as to develop support services offered to programs seeking accreditation. CIDA plans to better accreditation services, in order to make accreditation in demand and seamlessly introduce new accreditation standards in Fall 2009.
"The ASID Foundation supports the continuous improvement of accreditation services and recognizes the importance of successful implementation of new standards," says BJ Peterson, chair of the ASID Foundation Board. "The Foundation believes that CIDA’s approach is comprehensive, engages the appropriate stakeholders, and will result in greater value to those involved in the accreditation process."
