The National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. recently took note of Charles H. Thornton's dedication to tomorrow's generation of builders. The museum has named Thorton -- founder of the Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) Mentor Program -- winner of its seventh annual Henry C. Turner Prize for Innovation in Construction Technology.
The ACE Mentor program offers high school students an overview of careers in the building arts and sciences. Thorton takes home $25,000 from an endowment established by Turner Construction Company, the program's sponsor.
Thorton joins the ranks of an exclusive list of honorees, including Gehry Partners and Gehry Technologies, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and I.M. Pei. He will speak at the museum September 9, from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Attendees can pick up 1.5 Continuing Education Credits at the event, which is $12 for members; $12 for students; and $20 for the public. Tickets can be purchased online.
