The students who missed the 2007 handout of $24,000 in prizes from the Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers have a year to get the creativity flowing for next year: The organization is already seeking entries (due May 1, 2009) to its 2009 Fresh Wood Student Competition.
The competition is open to full-time students in an accredited high school or post secondary woodworking or related program, as well as part-time students in an accredited post secondary woodworking or related program that are transitioning into a career in woodworking or design. Submissions can fall into categories including case goods, chairs, class project, open, production, reproduction, and tables.
Projects must be completed to qualify -- with the exception of the finish coating. This new criteria is intended to help judges in the selection process.
Winners will be announced during the AWFS Fair, which runs July 15-18, 2009 in Las Vegas and will include a showcase of the finalist designs.
