If you thought of visiting Venice this summer but were scared off by the ever-diminishing exchange rate, consider instead its American sister by attending the American Institute of Architects Los Angeles chapter's A Stroll Through Venezia.
On June 29, the group will conduct a walking tour of architecturally significant homes in Venice, the Southern California city modeled after the Italian original, right down to the canals. As a warm-up to the event, AIA/LA will also host the free Architect's Forum on June 25 that will delve into the creative process behind each of the tour's featured homes.
The five homes on the excursion were selected to represent the diverse aspects of the Venice lifestyle with homes by the canals, the beach, and the more urban Abbot Kinney Boulevard. Stops on the tour are the 23 Breeze house by R&D Architects' David Reddy, the Canal House by EM Architects' Emily Kovner, Cube by M's Mark Baez, the Linnie House by Michele Saee Studio, and the 543 House by Callas Shortridge Architects' Steven Shortridge.
