Once Again, With Fries

Like a great burger, great design is the sum of its parts. Under a bun, Parallel Design principal Ali Tayar specifies bacon and Swiss. Under the roof of Pop Burger's newest branch, in New York's Midtown, his tastes ran more toward slumped glass, rough-hewn wood, and laser-cut metal. “I juxtaposed rough and refined materials, like oak planks in combination with anodized-aluminum panels,” Tayar says. Building on themes he introduced at Pop Burger's first location, he used pop-art imagery as a visual pun in the 6,000-square-foot, three-level space. The combination is intended to establish a brand identity for further expansion. Here, we deconstruct Tayar's recipe into its ingredients.
