What On Earth?

by Mark McMenamin -- Interior Design, 2/1/2008

Simple ideas produce complex poetry in "Maya Lin: Systematic Landscapes," which chronicles her meditations on the form of landscapes and the impact of technology on visualizing them. In addition to recent sculptures and drawings, three large installations are the centerpieces of the exhibit. Water Line depicts an undersea topographic formation in aluminum, Blue Lake Pass renders a Colorado mountain range in particleboard, and building materials form a hill in 2x4 Landscape.

Organized by Richard Andrews, the outgoing director of Seattle's Henry Art Gallery, the show is appearing at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. March 30–June 30; 858-454-3541; mcasd.org.
