Middle East Summit

Mark McMenamin -- Interior Design, 2/1/2008

From artificial islands to the tallest of towers, the United Arab Emirates already knows how to think big. Now it's learning to think small, too.

Haughton International Fairs, which previously concentrated on the U.K. and U.S., is touting Art and Antiques Dubai as a first for the Persian Gulf region: a convergence of 50 international dealers representing more than a dozen countries and tendering period and contemporary pieces that range from glass panels from the Normandie, offered by New York's Maison Gerard, to Islamic ceramic tile from London purveyor Amir Mohtashemi. Taking place at the Madinat Jumeirah resort's arena, the event is projected to attract 10,000 attendees. OK, maybe that's thinking big. February 21-24; 44-20-7389-6555; haughton.com.
