"Green" Tree in Barneys New York Holiday Window

Ivy Wood is sustainably harvested and both mold resistant and termite and insect proof.

This holiday season, green for Barneys New York also means environmentally friendly. A tree fabricated from FSC-certified wood spreads holiday cheer from the retailer's New York flagship in Midtown Manhattan.

A new debut from Brooklyn-based Green Depot, Ivy Wood is sustainably harvested and both mold resistant and termite and insect proof. A non-toxic chemical treatment insures a long lifespan. The product, mainly used in home frames and exterior decking, is also green in color.

Conceived by a design team head up by Barneys creative director Simon Doonan, the tree is the centerpiece of the holiday display.

"The window displays at Barneys set the creative bar for so many in the retail industry and the fact that they had an interest in using credible 'green' materials like Ivy Wood for this year's construction is very gratifying," says Green Depot founder Sarah Beatty.

The windows are in tune with Barneys' new green offerings, which include fair-trade fashion and organic denim and cashmere.

In addition to Brooklyn, Green Depot has showrooms in Newark, New Jersey; Philadelphia; Boston; and Greenport, New York.
