1. For "Spartacus" at the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, Eva Grubinger is creating an installation in steel. Her themes are omnipotent technology and paranoia—just like at the U.K.'s Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, where she constructed a high-rise building, cooling and control towers, and a nuclear reactor in wood at the end of a residency in 2003. 2. If fall's brilliant foliage has you craving more, catch "Color as Field: American Painting, 1950-75" at the Denver Art Museum. Frank Stella's Moultonville II in fluorescent alkyd and epoxy on raw canvas is among 40 works representing the undeniable impact of expansive color—poured, sprayed, and stained. 3. What did designers do before AutoCAD? In France after the First World War, they relied on stencils, called pochoirs, to apply color by hand to prints. The results, compiled in limited-edition portfolios, became marketing tools—as demonstrated by "Fashioning the Modern French Interior: Pochoir Portfolios in the 1920's" at the Wolfsonian–Florida International University in Miami Beach. The artist who also founded Gaseum, an architecture studio in Seoul, South Korea, presents his own work alongside that of invited artists and craftspeople in "Choi Jeong Hwa" at the Gallery at REDCAT in Los Angeles. 5. What comes after Richard Serra? "Martin Puryear." A member of the post-minimalist generation, he had his first major solo show in 1977, at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. The Museum of Modern Art in New York is now assembling 45 of his sculptures from the last 30 years.
