2007 ARIDO Award Winners Announced
Commercial work dominates this year's ARIDO Awards.

With commercial and retail designs leading the way, the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO) has announced the winners of its 23rd annual Awards of Excellence. The honors were given out to Ontario designers at a dinner at the Direct Energy Centre during built environment conference and exposition IIDEX/NeoCon Canada, held September 27-28.
The Ontario designers group awarded 26 entries in 12 different categories; the top winners for Project of the Year snagged honors for a winery and retail location.
Christopher Wright of Toronto’s Figure3 won a Project of the Year award for home design product maker UMBRA’s new store in downtown Toronto, while Diego Burdi or Burdifilek, also based in Toronto, garnered the other top honor for his designs for the retail and wine tasting rooms at Stratus Winery located in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Burdi garnered five awards all together, claiming an Award of Excellence for his work with retailer Capezio and three awards of merit for his designs for specialty emporium, Holt Renfrew.
Among the criteria used to judge entrants were sustainability, budget, design features, and overall creativity.

Elaine Cecconi and Anna Simone of Cecconi Simone for "X" The Condominium
Carol Smith of Smith Grimley Harris Design Partners for the Ojon workplace facility
Jenny Lee of Full Scale + Partners for its Offspring exhibition booth at Interior Design Show 2007
