"Europe 40 Under 40" Open for Submissions

Winners will be included in a traveling exhibition.

Who are tomorrow's architecture and industrial design leaders? Two annual Europe-wide awards program honoring industrial designers and architects under the age of 40 are open to submissions: The Architecture Awards 2008 and the Industrial Design Awards 2008. The European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies is accepting submissions from architects, product designers, graphic designers, and fashion designers. Architecture entries are due August 1 and industrial design entries are due October 1.

Applicants must be under the age of 40 as of October 1, 2007, and either working independently or in a firm or on a specific project where he or she is the lead designer (industrial design) or employed in established firms and principal lead designers for the projects submitted (architecture).

Submissions are welcome from 47 European nations: Applicants must be citizens of the European Union or in the countries of Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Russia, Turkey, Lichtenstein, Albania, Monico, Croatia, Andorra, Serbia, Montenegro, Georgia, Bosnia-Hezergovina, Macedonia, Moldavia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Canary Islands, Faeroe Islands, and San Marino.

Up to three products designed for production or manufactured can be submitted to the Industrial Design Awards competition. Products include electronics, medical equipments, public environments, furniture, textiles, tools, kitchen and bath, appliances, floorcovering, tabletop, hardware, industrial equipment, transportation, household products, personal, office products, sports, children's products, recreation, lighting, fashion, and accessories. Graphic designers are invited to submit books, publications, annual reports, logos, signage, posters, print materials, and corporate identity programs.

Architecture projects (built and unbuilt) include: Corporate architecture, skyscrapers, institutional projects, religious buildings, civic and political structures, planning projects, urban renewal, restoration/renovation, residential architecture for single family and multi-family dwellings, stores, residential or commercial interiors, sports and transportation centres, and public environments.

Both programs are a collaboration with the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and Metropolitan Arts Press.
