Green Grow the Rushes
The medieval English tradition of rush flooring is alive and well. Woven, sewed, and bound by hand, rugs by Rushmatters are made of rushes harvested from the banks of the Ouse and Nene Rivers. To weave a more magical spell, add herbs such as lavender, rosemary, and feverfew. Grange Farm, Colesden MK44 3DB, U.K.; 44-1234-376419; rushmatters.co.uk. circle 302
Good Nature
Stylish yet sweet, Iannone Design's case goods are also functional and environmental. Handmade in various combinations of bamboo plywood, cork, sorghum-composite panels, locally sourced hardwood, and plastic laminate, the pieces are finished, where applicable, with a water-based lacquer. For the Graphic armoire and the Robins and Dandelion credenzas, respectively, cutouts in the glossy white surface create damask-style arabesques, a bird-and-leaf pattern, and giant flowers. Innocent-looking reindeer and pine motifs front the Mod Lodge credenza. And the cork face of Mod Cork, another low cabinet, can be detailed with optional fabric-covered tacks. 162 West Lehigh Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19133; 856-889-7307; iannonedesign.com. circle 303

The perfect spot to squirrel away small items, Truba takes its name from the Russian word for tube—and is, in fact, a cardboard mailing tube with a laser-cut silhouette and a stained, varnished interior. Once Truba is delivered and mounted on the wall, the slightly larger cardboard tube the piece arrived in is all set for mailing your next package. 12140 Velvet Hill Drive, Owings Mills, MD 21117; 410-998-1070; alesinadesign.com. circle 306

A humble love seat became the courtly Jester with a freshly painted frame and new upholstery, Maharam's postindustrial polyester Action Fabric with wool trim. The Slip Cover chair, once merely an ordinary bergère, is now covered in clingy spandex. In the case of the Mod-Victorian bench, an ornate century-old piece benefits from some stylistic clarity, courtesy of a clear acrylic seat. Louis XVI Mod proves that a French antique bergère can be transformed into a contemporary conversation-starter with the addition of translucent acrylic seat and back panels. And brown resin now surfaces the base of the rebuilt and rewired Barovier, a Murano glass lamp. 2 Henry Adams Street, Suite 349, San Francisco, CA 94103; 415-864-3857; dwminteriors.com. circle 309

Although it looks simple, the engineering behind the cantilevered North Beach table is anything but.
