Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 3/21/2007

Sundeck by EOOS Design for Duravit. The results are in for the exclusive Red Dot Product Design Awards. Recognizing international excellence in product design, the 2007 program drew over 2,500 entries. A prestigious panel of industry experts singled out only 43 products to receive the Red Dot: Best of the Best for outstanding and innovative design.

Winners, including manufacturers Walter Knoll, Kohler, Hansgrohe, Gubi, and Duravit, hail from Brazil, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, South Korea, and the United States. On June 25, an awards ceremony will be held at the Essen Opera House in Essen, Germany.

The Gubi II chair from Gubi. “It has been particularly noticeable that China and Taiwan are becoming stronger every year. They are no longer satisfied with the role of an extended workbench of the western industrial nations, but have begun to create excellent design themselves,” notes Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award and president of the international design association Icsid.

Products will be on view in the exhibition “Design on Stage—Winners Red Dot Award: Product Design 2007” at the Essen Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany from June 26–July 23.
