AIA New Hampshire Announces Sustainable Award Winners
Winners were selected from Vermont and Connecticut.

At the Integrated Design/Integrated Development (IDID) Conference in Crawford Notch, New Hampshire, the local AIA Chapter recognized sustainable projects with the second annual Excellence in Sustainable Design and Development Awards program.
Architecture, landscape architecture, planning, or historic preservation projects were recognized for design excellence, engagement of sustainable design principles, and an integrated design process. Selection criteria was based on the project’s beneficial impact to the physical environment and its positive affect on the cultural landscape.
This year, the jurors selected NRG Systems offices and manufacturing facility in Hinesburg, Vermont, designed by William Maclay Architects and Planners of Waitsfield, Vermont and the National Outdoor Leadership School Headquarters in Lander, Wyoming designed by Centerbrook Architects and Planners of Centerbrook, Connecticut.The NRG offices achieved LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The building uses 70 percent renewable energy.
The National Outdoor Leadership School Headquarters reused existing buildings and contains 90 percent regional materials. It also has exterior sun shades and interior light shelves, occupancy sensors, natural ventilation, and a rooftop garden.
Jurors hailed from Portland, Oregon and included Greg Acker of the City of Portland Office of Sustainable Development; Larry S. Bruton of Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership; Rob Curry of Fletcher Farr Ayotte; William Church; Mike Faha, of Green Works PC; and Kingston Heath, director of the University of Oregon historic preservation department. Ryan Kanteres, of Portsmouth-based JSA, facilitated the process.
