100% Glass

Edited by Sheila Kim-Jamet -- Interior Design, 8/1/2004

In a clearly inspired move, London gallery Vessel has invited four of Britain's leading designers to a Venetian glassblowing studio to test their talents in this age-old but ever inventive medium. Vessel is then unveiling the results, a collection of signed limited-edition pieces, in "Salviati Meets London," an exhibition coinciding with 100% Design.

This is Vessel's second collaboration with the Murano company. The first, four years ago, gave rise to innovative work by the likes of Anish Kapoor and Tord Boontje. The current installment comprises Ross Lovegrove's space-age fusion of polished steel and handblown glass, Thomas Heatherwick's sculptural blown-glass furniture, Future Systems principal Amanda Levete's family of organic decorative objects, and Studio Dillon's oversize patterned vessels, decorated with filigreed cane according to the Zanfirico technique. September 24–October 30; 44-20-7727-8001; vesselgallery.com.
