Simply Complex

edited by Sheila Kim -- Interior Design, 5/1/2004

In "Beyond Geometry: Experiments in Form, 1940's-70's," the Los Angeles County Museum of Art charts the ascent of radical art in the politically turbulent decades following World War II. The exhibition places such movements as geometric modernism and kinetic art in historical and global context, with 200 works by Ellsworth Kelly, Josef Albers, Agnes Martin, Dieter Roth, and Donald Judd, among others. Works shed light on the simplified forms, light and movement studies, and intense experimentation and intellectualism that defined the era. June 13–October 3; 323-857-6000; lacma.org.
