Cindy Allen -- Interior Design, 7/1/2002

Our July survey of international design takes off with intrepid coverage of the infamous Axis of Glamour. Our fearless editors dined out in London, took in sublime Paris views, test-drove Berlin's showroom for the sporty new Mini, and covered acres of contemporary furniture in Milan. Not to beat around the bush, U.S. cable news had prepared us to expect rampant anti-American sentiments, but instead we found exceedingly friendly natives—albeit strangely affected by an exotic condition called futbol— and better-than-ever products. Three cheers for the brotherhood of design.

With the dog days of summer now enveloping the entire nation, you're also sure to appreciate our two "wintertime" excursions to the southern hemisphere. A communications consultancy in Australia and an investment firm in Brazil both prove that, when it comes to cutting-edge interiors, sizzle is never out of season.

Staying cool,

Cindy Allen
