Book Release: Linda O'Keefe's Latest Line

Despite the widespread popularity of and respect for the compositions of Daniel Buren, Sol Le Witt, and Agnes Martin, stripes are too often taken for granted. But author and former Metropolitan Home creative director Linda O'Keefe is out to change any such blasé disregard. O'Keefe's smart and stylish Stripes: Design Between the Lines, out this month from Monacelli Press, is an impressive collection of glorious striped manifestations.

Organic occurrences of rainbows and zebras are featured alongisde architectural innovations by practitioners such as Interior Design Hall of Fame members Carl D'Aquino and Francine Monaco, Christopher Coleman, and Muriel Brandolini.

Especially fantastic is Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn's ongoing Rio de Janerio development, O Morro, a 7,000-square-foot former shantytown that boasts 34 stripe-fronted buildings, painted by residents. Going beyond great graphics, Koolhaas and Urhahn have created stripes for social change.
