The 10th anniversary of openhousenewyork is being celebrated for two reasons. First, Interior Design recently announced its partnership with OHNY. Second, because the NYC weekend celebration of architecture and design from October 6-7 features the homes of some of the most talented designers in the industry.
This special OHNY event, called Interior Design's Designer's Open House, is an extraordinary opportunity to see behind the professional facade to the creative personal side of the 15 designers who have offered to throw open the doors to their homes. Many of the homes on the tours will feature “open dialogues,” giving visitors the opportunity to discuss the design process directly with the architects and interior designers involved. “At Interior Design, we live and breathe design—it’s in our DNA,” says Cindy Allen, editor in chief of Interior Design. “Each month our readers journey through remarkable projects by simply opening the page. Partnering with OHNY and inviting superstars of design to really open the doors of their own homes was a natural extension. Who doesn’t want to be on the inside—it’s voyeurism at its best.”
Located predominantly in Manhattan, these 15 homes demonstrate innovative design solutions, stylish retro-fittings, and sustainable design features. They range from polished mid-century modern to a newly constructed Harlem row house; from a West Village pied-à-terre with Hudson River views, to a converted 19th century dental factory that now serves as a live/work space complete with a moat, bridge, and water wall. The A-List of designers included in Interior Design's Designer's Open House are Aizaki Allie of Creme, Robert Krone of Robert Krone Architect, Scott Bromley of Bromley Caldari Architects, Lea Ciavarra of lubrano ciavarra architects, Koray Duman of Sayigh Duman Architects, Thomas Jayne of Jayne Design Studio, Shamir Shah of Shamir Shah Design, James and Hayes Slade of Slade Architecture, Ali Tayar of Ali Tayar/Parallel Design, and George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg of Yabu Pushelberg.
Founded in 2001, openhousenewyork (OHNY) is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring, engaging and educating the public about New York City's architecture, design and cultural heritage.
