Dror Benshetrit’s Studio Dror has designed chairs for Cappellini, boutiques for Yigal Azrouël, and sneakers for Puma. And he recently reconnected with a talent he had as a child: sculpture. (He even won a grant from the Tel Aviv Museum of Art at age 8.) Constructed using his patented QuaDror system of interlocking open squares, in this case fabricated with 3,000 pounds of steel, Reach reaches 16 feet in height. “It’s like an open stairway to the sky,” he says.
The ArcelorMittal and Mekal corporation donated the steel and fabrication services respectively, and the Love & Art Children’s Foundation commissioned the sculpture to make its debut outside São Paulo’s Brazilian Museum of Sculture during an exhibition of kids’ artwork inside. Come September 1, the sculpture and the artwork head permanently to the inland city of Jataí, home to the new House of Children Love & Art, offering art workshops and sports programs for underprivileged children.
