If you’re an interactive-design agency with Microsoft and the Morgans Hotel Group as clients and you’re headquartered in tech-centric Seattle, your office better be stellar. ZAAZ had been in its space for years, and public areas were in dire need of renovation—just inserting the typical foosball table wasn’t going to do the trick. It was time to call Best Practice Architecture and Design founding principal Ian Butcher and Erich Ginder Studio.

With a warren of walls removed, the triangular 9,000-square-foot floor plate now centers on Best Practice’s freestanding pavilion, housing the conference room, kitchen, and bar. The surrounding space is widest at reception. At the narrow end, painted-steel stools line a counter-height communal table for lunches and meetings. Between the table and an arched window is a lounge composed of mismatched vintage chairs chosen by Butcher and Erich Ginder. Ginder also used fabric remnants to upholster the sofa that wraps the very point of the triangle. Here and elsewhere, his white pendant fixtures hang from the 20-foot ceiling. A pop of red comes from a corner DJ booth. Naturally.
