Weather-Resistant Luxury: Oberoi Vanyavilas Tents

The 20-acre Oberoi Vanyavilas resort offers accommodations in 25 luxury tents that are as beautiful as they are durable.

tentNext door to India’s Ranthambhore National Park and Tiger Reserve - once the hunting preserve of the Maharajas of Jaipur - the 20-acre Oberoi Vanyavilas resort offers accommodations in 25 luxury tents that are as beautiful as they are durable. Keeping in mind the jungle surroundings and, of course, the adventure, says a spokesperson for Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, tents a more logical choice than, say, aluminum siding. Especially when you’re talking very special tents.

Each 790-square-foot tent has a bedroom with sitting area and a four-poster bed, bathroom, walk-in closet, and terrace overlooking a private garden enclosed by decorative mud walls, a local architectural tradition. The tents themselveshave one permanent wall, teak floors, and a three-layered canopy roof manufactured by a private company in India. These are no ordinary tents, however, even when you tak into account all the frills. These are speciallydesigned from material that assures longevity and durability, even in the face of extreme conditions.

The all-important top layer, according to a spokesperson for Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, is fire retardant, waterproof, and can withstand extreme temperatures up to 131-degrees farenheit. The middle layer is manufactured with materialthat controls the temperature of the canopy - its edges are tightened on to the wooden pelmet, which is mounted on the perimeter brick wall. The bottom layer is mostly decorative, custom designed and embroidered for the property so what guests see is the fashionable underpinnings, not the layers that actually keep them cool, dry and safe.
