Crate and Barrel

Mark McMenamin and Athena Waligore -- Interior Design, 2/1/2012 2:00:00 AM

Crate and Barrel

Teak and metal may rule the outdoors. However, there's a softer story to sell, as this retailer's burgeoning open-air assortment welcomes the slipcovered Catalina rolling sofa. Its subtly sloping frame of sustainable birch allows water to drain, while galvanized-steel casters resist rust. Cushions are filled with recycled fiber, and the slipcovers are machine-washable Sunbrella. If you specify it in Sailcloth Salt or another quiet color, amp it up with Marimekko pillows and beanbags. The upshot of a recent alliance with the Finnish fabric house, they're produced in spun polyester that resists moisture and UV rays. 800-967-6696; crateandbarrel.com.
