For this past October's Beijing Design Week, curator Gary Chang brought together seven fellow Chinese architects who had never tried their hand at industrial design-and asked them to join him in reimagining the typical tray for Alessi. The results, exhibited under the name "(Un)Forbidden City," will debut commercially at the New York International Gift Fair on January 28. Among them are Zhang Lei's Opposition in stainless steel and Ma Yansong's Floating Earth in stainless and mahogany.
